West Grand Bahama & Bimini
Born and raised in the quaint settlement of West End and Deadman’s Reef, Grand Bahama by her single mother and grandmother; Pakesia Parker-Edgecombe began her early education at the Holmes Rock Primary School under the tutelage of deceased educator, Walter Parker, Sr. She achieved her secondary education at the Eight Mile Rock High School.
Immediately after completing high school in 1991, she worked with Shell Bahamas on Grand Bahama for a year, then went on to pursue an under graduate degree at Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida. In 1996, she graduated from this institution with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications/Broadcast Journalism, with honors. Her passion for excellence lead her to further studies, and subsequently in 2003, she earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida.
Upon graduating from Bethune-Cookman College, Mrs. Edgecombe began a long and distinguished career as a journalist at the Broadcasting Corporation of the Bahamas (Freeport) where she worked as a News Anchor/Reporter.
As an accomplished journalist, Mrs. Edgecombe anchored the Freeport Television Newscast for more than eight consecutive years and travelled as far as South America (Guyana); covering CARIFESTA as part of ZNS news reporting. She was the first television news anchor to report the evening news outside of the studio live on Grand Bahama, Bimini, Abaco, and Andros.
Her decisions to give back to her community lead her to seek candidacy in the 2012 General Election for the West Grand Bahama and Bimini Constituency and although unsuccessful, she has remained an active member of her community. Mrs. Edgecombe is a strong advocate in the promotion of literacy and has volunteered her time with numerous groups and projects on the island of Grand Bahama. She is also a founding member of the Toast Masters Club Destiny on Grand Bahama, the Kamalamee Honours and a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
Presently, Mrs. Edgecombe is the Managing Partner of Match Point Communications and Investments. Her hobbies include, travelling, reading to children, cooking, tennis and softball. She is married to Trevor Edgecombe and this union has produced two beautiful children – Trevor (Jr.) and Tasanee.
