Marvin Dames was born in Nassau on November 15th, 1964 to Wilmore and Shirley Dames nee Beneby. He received his early education in Nassau at Government High School. He is a 1987 graduate of The Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology. He holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
Marvin participated in leadership courses at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut in 2005 and completed studies leading to a Master’s of Science in International Trust. In 2013 he completed the Chicago Management Institute Programme at the University of Chicago, Illinois. Marvin joined the Royal Bahamas Police Force in 1988. During his 23 year long service on the Police Force, he attended the top Law Enforcement School’s in The United States, Canada and The United Kingdom. In 1994 he attended the 176thSession of The F.B I. Academy. In 2005 he completed a five month Strategic Leadership Programme in the United Kingdom. In 1996, he attended the RCMP College in Ottawa, Canada.
Marvin also had numerous attachments abroad. Some of which included a 2001 attachment at the Metropolitan Police Service in the United Kingdom and in 2008 a one-year attachment at The Toronto Police Service, where he worked in the office of the Chief of Police.
He served as Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police from 2007 to 2009 and was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police in January 2010.
In 2010, he was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal, in 2009 he received his organization’s Long Service Medal and 2001 he was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal.
In May 2011 he joined the Baha Mar Resort as Vice-President of Security for the Baha Mar Resort, a position which he held for five years before forming the security firm, the Dames Group in January, 2016. He presently serves as the President and CEO of the Company.
Marvin is married to the former Stacey Cumberbatch and the couple has two children.
