Jeff Lloyd was born on New Providence on October 6th, 1951 to Stanford Lloyd and Eltoy Taylor education in Nassau and is a 1969 graduate of St. Augustine’s College. He completed an Associate’s Degree at St. Gregory’s Junior College, Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1971 earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications at Xavier University, New Orleans in 1974.
Following careers in journalism and education Jeff studied law at the University of Wolverhampton, England and completed his Certificate of Legal Education at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in Nassau. He was called to The Bahamas Bar in October, 2009.
Jeff began his employment career with a short stint as a news reporter with ZNS Radio before joining the teaching staff at St. Augustine’s College where he taught English and Drama for 5 years. Between 1979 and 1984 he returned to work in the United States as a Communications Consultant with the AT&T telephone company.
He returned to The Bahamas in 1984 and took up a two year teaching position at Aquinas College. Between 1986 and 1994 Jeff served as Country Manager for the US conglomerate Colgate-Palmolive in the Bahamas.
He joined Love 97 FM Radio as News Director and host of a weekly Talk Show, “FACE OFF” in 1994 and in 2001 became the host of the station’s midday show, “Issues of the Day”.
Today, Jeff is the Partner in the Law Firm, COLONELS CHAMBERS. He also continues to host talk radio programmes as the host of JEFFREY, on Star 106.5fm; and as TV Host on Cable Bahamas’ IN*FOCUS, Channel 12.
A Roman Catholic and always active in both his community and in the life of the Church Jeff was the founding Executive Director of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese’s Youth Empowerment and Skills Training Institute (YEAST) which targeted at-risk teenage boys and was instrumental in the development of the Bahamas’ first Character & Leadership Development Camp (more commonly known as “Boot Camp”) in 1999.
Jeff was ordained into the Permanent Deaconate in the Roman Catholic Church June, 2000 and served for 11 years as Permanent Deacon at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral.
In 1997, Jeff was elected to the Presidency of the Rotary Club of Nassau after serving as one of its Directors for the previous four years.
Jeff’s wife of 19 years Bernadatte Louise (nee Cooper) passed away in 2007. He was subsequently remarried to Michelle Donna Marie (Nee Mitchell) and is the father of five daughters and five grandchildren.
