Adrian Gibson is an attorney-at-law, educator, entrepreneur and columnist who hails from Long Island and has extensive experience in media/public relations, journalism and mass communications and education.
Over the years, Mr. Gibson has taught at the L W Young Junior High School, SC McPherson Junior High School and, briefly, at the College of the Bahamas. He is also a Certified Bahama Host lecturer for the Bahamas’ Ministry of Tourism.
An accomplished journalist, Mr. Gibson has, for more than a decade, penned a national weekly column for The Tribune newspaper, in addition to making various guest appearances as a media commentator and panellist at forums, talk shows and moderating symposiums such as the international criminal law symposium hosted by the Eugene Dupuch Law School. Mr. Gibson is regularly invited to present papers and speeches at conferences on topical issues.
As a teenager, Mr. Gibson was selected by the Bahamas Olympic Association to represent the Bahamas at the 2000 Olympic Youth Camp in Sydney, Australia (Olympic Games).
He graduated valedictorian of his high school class—North Long Island High—and is the holder of a Bachelors of Education Degree in History and Geography (Distinction) and a Diploma in Education from the College of the Bahamas. In 2012, he graduated from the University of the West Indies with a LLB (Honours). He subsequently attended the Eugene Dupuch Law School and graduated with his Certificate of Legal Education (Honours) in 2014, where he finished as the top male graduate.
Thereafter, he was called to the Bahamas Bar and clerked as a judicial assistant to then Chief Justice Sir Michael Barnett. He subsequently joined the law firm of Callenders & Co where he has been involved in a number of high profile cases. His practice covers a wide sphere of civil and commercial litigation, including judicial reviews, contractual disputes, constitutional law, company law, environmental law and human rights law. He also has some experience in criminal law, particularly habeas corpus.
Adrian Gibson considers himself to be a proud Long Islander, referring to himself as “Long Island through and through” since his grandfather Edward Gibson hails from south Long Island (Turnbull) and his grandmother Lenora Gibson is from north Long Island (O’Neils).
He is the son of Catherine and Paul Gibson. He grew up in Long Island with his grandparents. He has one son.
Among his various business interests, Mr. Gibson is the owner of a commercial building in Long Island and owner of the car rental company Aaron’s Rentals which is based in Bunches, Long Island.
Mr. Gibson has interest in attaining a Masters in Aviation Law and a private pilot’s license.
He is the vice-president of the PTA at a local Catholic school, a member of the Bahamas Bar Association, the Long Island Chamber of Commerce and participates in various civic and charitable causes.
