The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the Minnis administration’s leadership in sustaining a safe and responsible economic reopening:
“Encouraging signs continue for small businesses as the Minnis administration manages a safe, responsible and sustained reopening. According to the Bahamas Excursion Operators Association, businesses have seen a ‘huge improvement’ compared to this time last year. They remain optimistic about the months ahead. The reopening of Rosewood and SLS at Baha Mar, among other destinations, also moved the needle, as 60,000 health visas were purchased in March – the highest number since the start of the pandemic.
“While economies in many parts of the world remain at a standstill, The Bahamas’ ability to manage a phased reopening is the result of strong leadership and teamwork. The Prime Minister has worked with healthcare experts, community leaders and the business community in setting policy. The majority of Bahamians have done their part by following protocols and lifting up their neighbors during challenging times.
“Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis understands the pandemic response measures have presented challenges. However, we have gotten results and saved lives as a result of them. Having sensible rules has allowed us to coordinate a safe, responsible and sustained reopening.
“We must remain vigilant and continue following the pandemic response protocols so that businesses continue to open and our nation moves forward to a full recovery in time. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, our FNM Government will continue working to ensure all Bahamians have the opportunity to be vaccinated. And, we will continue relief efforts to care for those impacted by the pandemic.”
