The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the Minnis administration’s leadership in working toward economic recovery:
“Since the onset of the global pandemic, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis has prioritized the health and safety of all Bahamians. Our country has been successful in maintaining low infection rates, receiving the praise of international health organizations. But just as the Prime Minister works to save lives, he understands the importance of saving livelihoods. His administration is focused on a safe and responsible reopening of the economy.
“Earlier this month Rosewood and SLS reopened at Baha Mar, putting 600 Bahamians back to work. Crystal Cruises – which is planning to relaunch in July in The Bahamas – has reported its biggest single day of bookings in its 30-year history. Royal Caribbean also plans to relaunch cruises soon. It is working with the Government to plan its summer schedule. These are encouraging signs that progress is being made.
“The Prime Minister knows the pandemic measures have been challenging. But he also knew these public health rules were critical to moving us to a safe, responsible and sustainable reopening. We continue to see the positive results of those efforts.
“The pandemic rages on across the Americas and Europe. The Bahamas is succeeding in its pandemic management. Our leader and his administration are working together with health-care experts and communities to keep Bahamians safe.
“With the vaccine’s arrival and other positive signs, the work continues to prepare for a full reopening. The Prime Minister will also continue assisting those who have suffered due to the economic impact of the pandemic because he knows we deserve nothing less from our elected leaders.”
