The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding Philip Brave Davis’ latest politically motivated attack on the vaccine rollout:
“From the onset of the global pandemic our FNM Government has been proactive in managing the spread of COVID-19, implementing measures to protect all Bahamians and delivering relief to those hit hardest by its financial impact. Dr. Hubert Minnis made a career of saving lives as a doctor. Now as prime minister he’s doing the same.
“Regardless of Philip Brave Davis’s latest politically motivated attack on the vaccine rollout, the vaccine’s arrival to our shores is a hopeful sign. We are responsibly navigating our way to fully reopening our country.
“Davis and his PLP still see the COVID-19 crisis as a political opportunity as opposed to an unprecedented event requiring true leadership to bring the country together. Weekly, the PLP bounces back and forth from one contradictory attack to the next. One week Davis rails against the administration for implementing live-saving measures that global healthcare experts commend The Bahamas for. The next week Davis complains the Government isn’t doing enough.
“What’s most astonishing regarding his latest criticism is that Davis – someone hoping to lead the country – is now perpetuating skepticism of the vaccination process. This is dangerous. He is contradicting the consensus of the worldwide public health community.
“Yet, while attacking the vaccination process for political reasons, in the next breath Davis still says he wants the vaccine. His illogic is stunning. That he speaks in public in such an ill-conceived manner is further evidence he is unfit to be prime minister.
“Throughout this crisis Davis has shown a lack of judgment, and faith in the Bahamian people. This includes our healthcare professionals. Davis fled The Bahamas for foreign care when he was diagnosed with the virus. How could he hope to lead this country if he has no faith in its people?
“Our Prime Minister, Dr. Minnis, will continue prioritizing the safety of all Bahamians and work to ensure vaccines reach everyone. He is focused on us building a better Bahamas together.”
