The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the recent reopening of the SLS and Rosewood hotels at Baha Mar:
“Last week the SLS and Rosewood hotels at Baha Mar resumed business, returning 600 employees to work. The pandemic, which halted the tourism industry across the world, forced the hotels to close for nearly a year. And while the tourism industry in many countries remains shut down, The Bahamas has been gradually returning to business in a safe and responsible manner.
“Realizing the importance of managing COVID-19 in a way that would produce results, the Minnis administration followed the direction of healthcare experts. This data-driven approach allowed The Bahamas to maintain low case numbers compared to other countries.
“Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis will be the first to acknowledge how difficult the restrictions and other protocols have been. However, with hotels such as the SLS and Rosewood reopening, while businesses in other parts of the world remain closed, we’re seeing the effectiveness of our Government’s pandemic response measures.
“Not playing politics with the pandemic and showing true leadership have us positioned for the economy to continue reopening. That meant focusing on saving lives by working with the medical experts, regardless of the stream of nonsensical and contradictory political attacks coming from Philip Brave Davis and his PLP.
“While employees of the SLS and Rosewood returning to work is cause for optimism, the Minnis administration will continue to be vigilant. Our Government has the goal of limiting any spread of the virus as our businesses gradually open their doors and Bahamians get back to work.”
