The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the PLP’s continued tactic of misleading the public on the party’s association with Peter Nygard:
“Having the light shone on their obvious and deep ties to their noted benefactor, foreign billionaire Peter Nygard, who is in a jail awaiting trial for systematically targeting and abusing underage girls, we are now seeing the PLP scurrying back to the shadows. First, it was their fearful leader, Philip Brave Davis, who repeatedly suggested to anyone who would listen that his and the PLP’s deep ties to the nefarious, eccentric, billionaire benefactor were nothing more than rumors. Then Davis recently put on his Academy-Award winning performance seemingly forgetting Nygard’s full name. Now he’s settling in by suggesting their deep associations with Nygard are in the past. Which is it Davis? We are all having trouble keeping score – especially with all the video footage showing your friend Nygard taking credit for your party’s past victories.
“Not to be outdone is PLP MP Glenys Hanna-Martin, who is showing she is reading from the same song sheet as Davis. She admitted publicly she indirectly benefited from Nygard’s financial support to the PLP, but added with a straight face she never took money out of his hands directly. Does that make it okay?
“There is a reason Nygard’s son said Nygard acted like he was above the law. The PLP should take note.
“It’s ironic that in ratifying new candidates this week, Davis made a reference to transparency. Yet Bahamians still wait for Davis and his PLP to come clean, to distance themselves from Nygard’s money and give credence to the scores of women and girls who say they suffered such horrifying abuse by Nygard while the PLP was last in power.”
