The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding Fred Mitchell’s unhinged swipe at the media for his party’s abysmal candidate selections:
“Only the woeful and failed PLP gets mad when confronted with the truth. As the media accurately pointed out, what’s old is new again with the PLP when it comes to candidate recruitment, policy positions and failed leadership. Fred Mitchell launched into a diatribe towards The Tribune today for simply stating the obvious and what most Bahamians already know: His party’s candidate selection harkens back to the past, proving once again they have not moved on from the disastrous ways that led to their last historic election defeat.
“We have news for Mitchell. No one was contrasting the number of fresh faces among the parties. What was pointed out was the reality of where that party is: The woeful PLP led by Philip Brave Davis seems intent on getting the old gang back together. They are bringing back several controversial figures who were voted out, predominately by wide margins, in 2017. Mitchell’s over-the-top response shows how thin-skinned they are.
“The PLP was rejected in historic fashion at the last general election because of its dismal record. There was low to no economic growth, crime records and widespread corruption. Bahamians do not want to go back to that dark past.
“In the meantime, the FNM is nominating incumbents and new candidates who possess considerable leadership and experience. They will work to create more opportunities for all Bahamians, not a select few, because we know the people deserve nothing less from their elected leaders.”
