The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the opposition party’s changing tune on the Government’s handling of the pandemic:
“Earlier this week Philip Brave Davis said not enough is being done. Yesterday his puppet Fred Mitchell was saying too much is being done. When will the woeful PLP get on the same page? It’s painfully obvious to most Bahamians that Davis and his PLP see the pandemic as a political opportunity – rooting for failure at every turn. The rest of the country is working together, following the protocols that are helping to save lives.
“The woeful PLP’s tone-deaf, never-ending criticism comes while the global health community is recognizing the recent efforts of the Minnis Administration working with healthcare experts to stop the spread of the deadly virus. According to the Global COVID-19 Index (GCI), we are among the countries that have ‘made the most progress in curtailing the spread of the pandemic’. This same report also claimed the measures implemented by the Administration ‘can be used as examples of best practices’ in managing COVID-19. In fact, The Bahamas is among only 28 countries considered to currently have contained the pandemic, according to EndCoronavirus.org.
“Despite our success, the Prime Minister, who is a doctor, and his team are stressing caution and vigilance in the face of new strains. The pandemic is not over. That is what a true leader does. Davis and Mitchell should take note and start working together with the Government to save lives instead of launching ill-conceived, politically motivated attacks that continue to miss the mark.”
