The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the continued success in work to keep Bahamians safe during the pandemic:
“From the outset of a global pandemic that has taken so many lives, wrecked economies and changed our way of life, our Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, has prioritized the health and safety of Bahamians. Many of the protocols he and his administration developed, with help from health experts and community leaders, have gotten results. And as we witness horrifying reports of the virus raging in other parts of the world, we have thankfully, thus far, avoided the worst.
“We have avoided the current surges even as we slowly and safely re-open the economy. Yet, Prime Minister Minnis wisely is not declaring victory. He has stressed caution and vigilance as his administration continues to work tirelessly to beat back the pandemic – including by organizing for eventual vaccine distribution.
“Indecisive policy and a lack of public buy-in have harmed the pandemic response effort in some places. Such a scenario is not the reality in our country, even with the politically motivated naysayers.
“We know that under the leadership of Prime Minister Minnis our Government will continue fighting to save lives and drive toward a responsible and comprehensive economic recovery. They know if we all continue to work together as we have, we will overcome this unprecedented crisis and build the path to a greater future for all Bahamians.”
