The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding Fred Mitchell’s wildly inaccurate assertions surrounding oil drilling in The Bahamas:
“The woeful PLP has no positive record to run on. They continue to ignore the disastrous decisions they made while last in power. They have not changed.
“PLP Chairman Fred Mitchell’s latest statement was mere revisionist history. It was the PLP that negotiated the disastrous oil drilling deal under the Christie Administration while Mitchell’s fearful current leader, Philip Brave Davis, served as former Prime Minister Perry Christie’s top lieutenant. So the people know when it comes to being ‘intellectually dishonest or disgraceful,’ that rests with the PLP.
“No one has forgotten that in their arrogance and incompetence, the Christie Administration negotiated the worst oil drilling deal in the world. Yet, today they are working diligently to wash their hands of their mess. Mitchell can try to spin the facts all he likes. However, he can’t spin history. The PLP has a long record of incompetence, deceit, corruption and cover-ups.
“This Government is dealing with the hand it was dealt regarding so many disastrous decisions made by Mitchell’s PLP. And even though the woeful PLP seeks to talk down the country’s successes every chance it gets, construction and development continue. The Minnis Administration remains determined to move the country forward with better infrastructure, expanded access to education and diversification of the economy to help provide opportunity for all Bahamians, not just the chosen few the PLP helps.
“All this in the face of back-to-back crises and an opposition party that fails to take responsibility for the disastrous policies it put in place. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis our Government will continue prioritizing people over politics. We encourage our friends on the other side to start doing the same.”
