The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the Prime Minister’s presentation at the land grant ceremony in Crossing Rocks, Abaco:
“When the FNM took office in 2017 it promised to help bring Crown land back into the hands of Bahamians because, as Prime Minister Minnis said on Friday, ‘Crown land is the people’s land’. As our nation continues to recover from the worst natural disaster in our history, Prime Minister Minnis is determined to rebuild in ways that give the people more access to land than before. Last week’s announcement was an encouraging sign that the Government remains committed to this endeavor.
“In addition to what was done in Abaco, the Prime Minister announced on Friday that lots of land will be made available to young professionals in Western New Providence at a discounted price. While lots in the area could sell for $150,000, these young professionals will have the opportunity to purchase them for $50,000 or less.
“The Government will also help provide amenities to the community, such as a swimming pool and community center. To further assist these Bahamians in seizing the opportunity the Prime Minister said building materials, including home appliances, would be duty free.
“With the 24 title deeds presented to Crossing Rocks residents on Friday, the Minnis Administration has now presented 80 title deeds in total to Crossing Rocks residents since 2019. Under the Minnis Administration’s land grant program 140 grants have been finalized for Bahamians on various islands.
“Our Government will continue to work to ensure resources and the development of our islands empower the people, not career politicians hoping to manipulate crises for self-gain.”
