The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the gradual reopening of businesses and loosening of restrictions:

“Today’s reopening of Atlantis is an encouraging reminder of what can be accomplished when Bahamians work together toward a common purpose. Measures have been put in place to ensure staff and visitors are safe. Some employees are back to work and Atlantis is ready to receive guests.

“This is a far cry from the unfortunate reality in many countries. Governments around the world are struggling to formulate safety protocols. Such has not been the case in The Bahamas, as our Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, has continually made swift, data-driven decisions, without waffling, in order to contain COVID-19 cases when they arise. Just as importantly, Bahamians have risen to the challenge and worked together to help keep the coronavirus contained.

“While the Prime Minister acknowledged that curfews, restrictions and other containment protocols have not been easy for anyone, we’re now seeing that the Government’s strategy has allowed The Bahamas to safely and gradually reopen. And with there still being struggles for various Bahamians due to the economic and social impacts of the global pandemic, the FNM Government is providing hope by extending relief and concessions to the most vulnerable while also keeping its eye on the target of new job-growing developments.

“The FNM applauds our Prime Minister for acting on behalf of all Bahamians and staying the course to prioritize health and safety. His sound judgement has allowed our nation to largely avoid the alarming number of cases currently being dealt with in much of the world. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Minnis our Government will continue serving all Bahamians, as we deserve nothing less from our elected leaders.”
