The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the Minnis Administration’s COVID-19 vaccine preparation efforts:
“As Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis has clearly stated, the virus vaccine offers a promise of hope as well as a note of caution as the world faces continued challenges. The hope is that once widely distributed vaccines will help everyone begin to get back to normalcy.
“With that goal in mind, the Minnis Administration is taking proactive measures regarding preparations for COVID-19 vaccinations, including making a down payment to secure 80,000 doses. It has also tasked the Ministry of Works to begin sourcing the storage equipment required for distribution. The announcement this week of the effort to secure vaccines for Bahamians is a hopeful sign for all of us.
“But even as the vaccine starts to make its way across the globe, we are witnessing frightening surges of the virus in other countries. Thankfully, under the leadership of the Prime Minister and his Administration we are in a better position than many places. However, as the Government has cautioned, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to follow proper health protocols to keep the virus in check as the Minnis Administration works to bring in enough vaccine doses to safely inoculate Bahamians. It will take time but we know we have leaders committed to the cause.
“The global pandemic has devastated countries, their healthcare systems and economies. It has made life challenging for Bahamians. However, true leaders rise to the occasion as our Prime Minister has. And while much work remains, the people know the Minnis Administration is committed to making the tough but necessary decisions to protect the health and safety of Bahamians while delivering assistance to those struggling through the pandemic. We deserve nothing less from our elected leaders.”
