The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the Prime Minister’s address on the COVID-19 spike in Exuma:
“As the world anticipates a vaccine, all signs point to a continued war against COVID-19 in the near term. Our Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, knows we must stay vigilant. With the latest spike in Exuma, he isn’t wasting time to take the necessary action to slow viral spread and save lives. His administration is currently increasing the number of health officials on Exuma and is sending contact tracers to help monitor the situation. A 24-hour weekend curfew starting Fridays at 6 p.m. and ending Mondays at 5 a.m. will be implemented, along with a weekday evening curfew, to limit COVID-19 spread.
“Our Government implemented similar measures that succeeded in New Providence and Abaco – allowing these communities to safely and responsibly reopen. The Prime Minister is showing leadership and taking the urgent action needed to ensure the safety of families in Exuma.
“Our FNM Government is fighting to protect the health and safety of all Bahamians, while keeping the economy moving after two historic crises in a row. Sadly, our friends on the other side don’t have the same priorities. The loquacious Chester Cooper, who rarely misses an opportunity to seize the microphone, did it again, launching into his latest nonsensical, partisan attack, criticizing the safety efforts being implemented in Exuma.
“Just like his mentor, Brave Davis, Cooper fails to realize leadership is about making the necessary but tough choices that save lives – not just giving partisan rants to gain headlines. Prime Minister Minnis is showing true leadership, working with healthcare professionals and medical experts to analyze the data and develop safe and responsible action plans. That is the quickest way to get the country re-opened, and the economy up and running again. The Minnis Administration has proven it will always put the people first. And in this case, that means keeping residents in Exuma as safe as possible regardless of the PLP’s latest side-show antics.”
