Free National Movement Chairman Carl Culmer Sr. issued the following statement in response to PLP Chairman Fred Mitchell:
“Fred Mitchell is a tired, exhausted politician. He has been hanging around the political scene since the 1970s. He and PLP Leader Philip Brave Davis represent the past in Bahamian politics. They have no vision for our country. They have no ideas. All they know how to do is attack, criticize and divide.
“In response to my substantive reply to his baseless attack on the Prime Minister, Mitchell responded with a juvenile statement unfitting of a Senator and party Chairman. Such is the state of the PLP under Mitchell and Davis. Decorum and civility have been set aside for gutter politics.
“Every time our Government extends a hand to the opposition to work with us in this COVID-19 crisis they pull back and resort to silly attacks and criticism. The Bahamian people are watching. They see that giving power to Mitchell and Davis would be a disaster. They did not have the courage to speak up in the last PLP term when Perry Christie was leading our country to ruin. The clueless duo of Mitchell and Davis would wither under the pressure of this COVID-19 crisis if they were in charge. Bahamians did the right thing in 2017, sending them to the sidelines where they remain and belong.
“The petty criticisms we’re seeing from the opposition are becoming more childish and less substantive by the day. Our Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, is focused and working hard to bring the country through this crisis. Decisive action by the Minnis Administration is steering us through this second wave. The PLP’s pandemic positions change with the wind. In contrast, Prime Minister Minnis demands a data-driven approach, prioritizing the health and safety of all Bahamians.
“Our FNM Government has shown we have faith in Bahamians – especially our talented healthcare professionals – unlike Mitchell and Davis who prefer the services of foreigners. We are working with them every day in this COVID crisis. Our Prime Minister and the FNM Government are also working tirelessly to restore the lives and businesses impacted by the pandemic. That’s what true leaders do: They roll up their sleeves and get to work for the people they serve.”
