Statement from the Free National Movement
August 24, 2020
The Free National Movement issued the following statement regarding the Prime Minister’s leadership throughout back-to-back crises:
“Today’s press conference by our Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, is a reminder that we have a leader clearly focused on our well-being and safety. He is working to bring everyone together to determine the most responsible steps forward to contain the virus’ spread and start our recovery.
“The rapidly changing dynamics of the global pandemic call for true leadership that works with the experts and seeks out other voices to come to the best solutions during these turbulent times. Prime Minister Minnis continues to do just that in the fight against COVID-19 and the ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Dorian.
“Throughout all this the Prime Minister has shown the humility and flexibility to consult with experts and community leaders to determine the best way forward. He has demonstrated throughout the COVID-19 fight that, having built a career as a doctor, he is uniquely positioned to manage a health crisis. Additionally, Prime Minister Minnis has shown he’s a leader for all of us. His decisions are not made out of ideology or political expediency; rather, he makes decisions based on data with the good of all the people foremost on his mind.
“A glimpse at the world news is enough to reveal that political leaders around the globe are using COVID-19 to weaponize public opinion for political advantage in a crisis. Sadly, the woeful PLP has followed that playbook from the start of this pandemic. Ever quick to scream ‘day’ if the Government says ‘night’, or ‘down’ if the Government were to say ‘up’, they rant from the sidelines as Prime Minister Minnis leads for the benefit of Bahamians from the frontlines.
“The FNM – and all Bahamians – thank the Prime Minister for staying resolute and focused despite the political immaturity from our friends on the other political side. He has shown by example that this FNM Government will continue working tirelessly to protect all Bahamians and help our communities through this global crisis. We deserve nothing less from our elected leaders.”
